DOJ Consent Decree Approval
The meeting began with a motion to enter closed session for a legal briefing regarding the DOJ litigation matter. After several hours in closed session, the council reconvened in open session to vote on the consent decree. The City Attorney explained that the settlement package would include:
- A complaint by the Department of Justice against the City of Minneapolis
- A joint motion requesting court approval of the consent decree
- The consent decree itself
Council President Payne noted this was “marking the end of the beginning on a very, very long road” and thanked the community for their patience during this “long and challenging journey.”
Vote: Approved 12-0 (Rainville absent)
